Stone Worktop Warranties: What Is Covered and What Voids Your Guarantee

A new stone worktop represents a significant financial commitment. Understanding exactly what your warranty does and does not cover protects that investment. The marketing language around warranties can be impressively vague — but the substance varies considerably between manufacturers and installers.

Manufacturer Warranty vs. Workmanship Guarantee

The manufacturer warranty covers defects originating from the factory — structural failures, colour inconsistencies, premature surface degradation from manufacturing faults. Leading brands such as Silestone and Caesarstone offer 10 to 25-year warranties; some premium brands offer lifetime warranties for the original purchaser.

The workmanship guarantee covers the quality of the installation itself — the accuracy of the fitting, the quality of the joints, and the stability of the installation. This is provided by the installation company, not the manufacturer, and should be received in writing. Reputable companies offer five to ten years. At Stoneone, every installation carries a ten-year workmanship guarantee.

What Voids a Warranty

  • Thermal shock from placing hot pans directly on the surface
  • Impact damage from dropping heavy objects on edges
  • Use of prohibited cleaning chemicals (bleach, industrial solvents)
  • Installation by uncertified fitters — this is a critical clause that most manufacturers enforce rigorously
  • Modification of the surface after installation

Transferability on Sale

If you sell your home, check whether the warranty transfers to the new owner. Some manufacturers allow a one-time transfer; others limit coverage to the original purchaser only. Transferable warranties can be a meaningful selling point — prospective buyers value the reassurance of continued coverage from a recognised premium brand.
